Our Quantity Surveyor Intern Shares Her Experience

My name is Amy Lehane, and I completed my work placement with CTS Group as part of my 3rd year Quantity Surveying placement module. CTS Group are M&E Contractors; I had the opportunity to work with both the Mechanical and Electrical Quantity Surveyors who are highly experienced and mentored me throughout my placement helping me to gain the essential skills and knowledge in this field. The skills I developed in my time with CTS Group involved learning about mechanical and electrical systems and how they are priced and procured, completing take offs and understanding drawings and specifications. I assisted with valuations for live projects and interacted with subcontractors, clients, project managers and foremen. This gave me the understanding how vital the role of the Quantity surveyor is in managing costs for projects. This opportunity allowed me to expand my skillset beyond general construction and exposed me to a technical and modernised industry in Mechanical and Electrical Contracting.
