Moynalty School

Electrical services were provided to a new school located in Moynalty, Co. Meath. The school consists of 4 No.Classrooms, special needs rooms, staff rooms, Offices, General purpose room and plant areas.

The school is a Passive Building. A Passive Building is a very well-insulated, virtually air-tight building where energy losses are minimised. The heat demand is provided by an extremely small source. Avoidance of heat gain through shading and window orientation also helps to limit any cooling load, which is similarly minimised. A heat recovery ventilation system provides a constant, balanced fresh air supply.

The Passive House design for the school incorporated energy efficient features and renewable energy technologies throughout.

Lighting controls incorporated passive infra red movement detectors and photocells, switching and dimming lighting as required.

A rainwater recycling system was installed in the building. This system will supplied the toilet cisterns and a tap for irrigation purposes.

A Building Monitoring System (BMS) was installed and monitored the following:

Room CO2 levels, internal and external temperatures, rain and mains water usage, lighting and power.

The system controls automatic windows according to the levels of CO2 and internal and external temperatures.

Services included security features such as Intruder alarms, access control systems, CCTV and a fire alarm. Additional provisions to the school included audio/visual wiring to each classroom, PA systems, Cat 6A data wiring, dimmable lighting and external floodlighting.
