Mount melleray Abbey Waterford

Situated on the slopes of the Knockmealdown Mountains, Mount Melleray Abbey is a fully functioning Cistercian monastery. Founded in 1832 by Irish and English monks expelled from France after the French revolution, the abbey is a popular visitor’s attraction and still home to the same order of monks whom are to this day, a very integral part of the surrounding communities.

Following the completion of a prior successful renewable energy project to the monastery, in July 2013 CTS Group were thrilled to have been engaged as the electrical contractors, for the purpose of upgrading this 20,000 square foot abbey’s electrical services so as to keep them in line with modern day standards.

The project was completed within six months and electrical services were provided to support two chapels, a library, offices, a kitchen and a rectory. Works were carried out with complete sensitivity to the building and included general services, the installation of new distribution boards, a PA system to the church and a wireless fire alarm system. While the monastery required general and emergency lighting throughout the building, specialist light fixtures were also installed within the chapels.
